Winter Health Tips


winter-cold-n-fluWith summer now a distant memory, we succumb to dark cold mornings. And at this time of year, the dreaded colds and flu season arrives.

What can we do to ensure that we remain heathy?

Eat well – although it may be tempting to eat comfort food that’s high in sugar and fat, eating a healthy nutritious diet can help to maintain a good immune system. Ensure that your diet contains vegetables and fruit packed with minerals and vitamins, such as sweet potatoes, mandarins, bananas, green leafy vegetables and garlic.  Plenty of winter vegetables can be roasted, mashed, or made into a healthy soup or stew.

sleepSleep well- getting a good night’s sleep can help keep the body’s immune system healthy to fight off colds. Aim for about seven to nine hours a night.

 

 

winter-exerciseExercise regularly – although it may seem cold outside, a brisk walk will boost your immune system. You could also always try exercises indoors to remain active.

 

Stay hydrated – due to the decrease in temperature our thirst levels may reduce. It is still important to maintain a good water intake as this aids our body to function and heal itself.

Boost your immune system – following the above tips it will help you to remain healthy and support your immune system. Supplements such as garlic, vitamin c, zinc and Echinacea can also help to boost your immunity.
